Penn State Alumni of Greater Binghamton have a community adopt a highway opportunity:

Church of the Holy Family Parish Pastoral Council:   Our Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) needs 2 Youth At-Large members to replace Clair Rogers and Louis Newman.  It would be for the 2016-2017 year and we would meet 4 times in that timeframe, typically twice in the Fall and twice in the Spring.  Our next meeting is September 14th at 7pm in Room 2.  This would be a nice opportunity for 2 people who would like to get a little insight into how things work at our parish behind the scenes.

Church of the Holy Family Transportation Ministry:  We are looking for additional “helpers” for our Transportation Ministry, and we wondered if any Confirmation candidates, or any other high-school age parishioner, would like to help with this ministry.  Specifically a helper assists the driver getting people into and out of the van, and helping them buckle up.  The helper does not drive the van and is not required to have a license.  There is no training involved, the driver would show the helper what to do.  Since we drive every Sunday for the 11am Mass a helper would meet the driver at the church parking lot at 10:15am, then ride in the van with the driver as they go an pick up riders.  At each stop (typically 2 stops) the helper and the driver assist passengers getting into the van.  Once we get to church we unload the passengers, attend Mass, and then repeat the process to bring the passengers home.  It takes about 20 minutes after mass to drop off the passengers and return back to church.   Our scheduling is pretty flexible, every week I send out an email with the current schedule, and the drivers/helpers sign up for the Sunday’s that work in their schedule.  We have about 5-8 riders a week, most of them from Good Shepard and they truly appreciate the rides.   We would take as many helpers as are interested in participating.
